Gift Card Delivery Units

Set up inworld dispensers that hand out free gift cards for events and promotions.

A Gift Card Delivery Unit is an inworld object that hands out free gift cards to customers, typically for events and promotions. Unlike a manually issued gift card, which targets one specific resident at a time, a Delivery Unit lets customers pick up a card from the inworld object.

Delivery Units live at stores.allomancy.com/gift-cards/delivery-units. The page handles configuration and produces an ID that you paste into the inworld object to pair the two together.

Creating a Delivery Unit

On the Gift-cards Delivery Units page, click New unit at the top of the list. Fill in the fields described below, then click Create to create the unit.

Field reference

  • Unit name: a label for your own organization.
  • Credit: the L$ value of each gift card the unit hands out. Default L$100.
  • Custom texture: an optional Second Life texture UUID. When left blank, the card uses your store logo. See What image appears on the gift card below.
  • Group Only: marks the unit as group-restricted.
  • Start and End: optional date range for the unit. Leave them empty for an open-ended unit.

Setting up the unit inworld

After creating the unit, pair it with the inworld Gift Card Delivery Unit item.

How a unit hands out cards

A Delivery Unit hands out one gift card per customer by tracking claims against the unit ID in the inworld object's description. Reusing the same ID keeps the same one-card-per-customer campaign.

To start a new round where every customer can claim again, create a fresh Delivery Unit, copy its new ID, and paste that new ID over the old one in the inworld object's Description field.

The two inworld meshes

The Gift Card Delivery Unit ships in two meshes:

  • a compact option, and
  • a terminal option.

Use whichever fits your store layout. Both use the Delivery Unit ID in the object's description field.

What image appears on the gift card

If your store has a logo registered on your Store Settings page, gift cards from the unit automatically inherit that logo when no Custom texture is set. To override the store logo for a specific unit, paste a Second Life texture UUID into the Custom texture field when you create or edit the unit.

Editing or deleting a unit

The Delivery Units list shows every unit you have created. The Group only column uses a green when the unit is restricted to your store group, and a red when anyone can use it.

To change a unit's settings, click on its row to reopen the dialog, change what you need, and click Save

To remove a unit, click on its row.

Permissions

Managing Delivery Units needs the Manage Gift Cards permission. Store owners always have it. To grant it to a staff member, see Store Managers.
