Gift Cards

Issue store credit as gift cards, manage active cards, and review redemption history.

Gift cards are a quick way to put store credit into a customer's hands. Use them as launch promos, blogger thank-yous, customer-service comps, or pre-paid credit a customer can pass to someone else when transfer is allowed.

The Gift Cards area lives at stores.allomancy.com/gift-cards. The landing screen has three tiles:

  • Customers cards: issue, edit, and review every gift card owned by a customer.
  • Redeem history: see when each gift card was redeemed.
  • Delivery units: set up inworld dispensers that hand out gift cards. See Gift Card Delivery Units.

Giving a gift card

Open the Customers cards tile and click Send Gift Card at the top of the page to open the Give a gift card dialog.

Enter the recipient

Type the recipient's Second Life username.

Choose the credit amount

Set the Credit value in L$.

Decide whether the card is transferable

Tick Transferable if the recipient should be able to pass the card on to someone else. Leave it off to bind the card to the recipient.

Optionally set an expiry

Pick an Expiry if the card should only stay valid for a limited time: 30d, 60d, 90d, 1 year, or Custom…, which takes a number of days. Leave No expiry selected for a card that never expires.

Optionally set a custom texture

Paste a Second Life texture UUID into Custom texture (optional) if you want the card to use a custom texture.

Send

To create the gift card for that resident, click Send

Selling gift cards inworld

Customers can also buy their own store credit inworld, at any value they choose, to top up for a purchase or to gift someone.

To set this up, rez the Allomancy - Customer & Gift Card Terminal from your Allomancy system box, the same box that holds your dispenser and vendor, and grant debit permission when Second Life asks. That is the whole setup.

Once the terminal is rezzed, customers pay any L$ amount into its "Choose amount" field to buy a gift card of that value. They receive a link in Second Life local chat to their gift cards on the Allomancy customer website. There they redeem the card for store credit or transfer it to someone, the same as a gift card you send from the web.

To hand out free, fixed-value cards you set up in advance instead, see Gift Card Delivery Units.

Reviewing customer gift cards

The Customer Gift Cards page lists every gift card you have issued. Use the search box at the top to filter by owner.

Each row shows:

  • Owner: the resident who holds the card.
  • Credit: the L$ value of the card.
  • Expires: the card's expiry date, or a dash for cards that never expire. A Expires soon badge joins the date when it is within 30 days (turning red at 7 days or fewer), and a Expired badge replaces it once the date has passed. Expired cards stay in the list.
  • Transferable: a green when the card can be transferred, a red when it cannot.
  • Status: the status column shows Active for active cards and Disabled for disabled cards. Click it to toggle the card on or off.
  • Creation and Last change: when the card was first created and when it was last modified.
  • Action: click to open the edit dialog for that card.

Disabling and re-enabling a card

The status button in the Status column is a toggle. Click the button on a row to flip its state.

Editing a card

To edit a card, click on its row. You can change the credit amount, the Transferable flag, and the texture, and flip the Active checkbox at the top of the dialog. The username is read-only, and a card's expiry is set when you send it and cannot be changed afterwards. To save, click Update

Reviewing redemption history

The Gift Card Redemption History page lists every gift card that has been redeemed. Each row shows:

  • Customer: the resident who redeemed the card.
  • Credit: the L$ amount redeemed.
  • Date: when the redemption happened.

Gift cards and store credit

A gift card can be redeemed for store credit; the redeemed value arrives as a credit lot marked with a gift-card badge, described in Store Credit. Use the Customers page to review each customer's credit balances and other customer-specific details.

Permissions

Managing gift cards needs the Manage Gift Cards permission. Store owners always have it. To grant it to a staff member, see Store Managers.
